Synthesis Examples

Turn analysis into a clear recommendation.

Synthesis is the skill of explaining what matters, what it means, and what the client should do next. It should happen throughout the case, not only at the end.

Interim synthesis

After an exhibit or calculation, summarize the insight before moving on. For example: "This suggests the issue is not market demand, but conversion through the client's own channel, so I would next investigate sales incentives and customer behavior."

Final recommendation

  • Lead with the recommendation.
  • Support it with two or three reasons.
  • Name the biggest risk or caveat.
  • Suggest a practical next step.

Common synthesis questions

How long should the final answer be?

Usually under a minute. It should be crisp, top-down, and supported by the most important evidence.

What if the case is incomplete?

State your recommendation based on current evidence, then name the analysis you would complete before implementation.
